Dr. Brian Stevens, director of choral activities in the Department of Art, Music and Theater, hosted acclaimed Latvian composer Laura Jēkabsone for a week of rehearsals and workshops with his Western New York-based professional treble chamber choir, Vox Lusciniae, in preparation for their Oct. 4 concert.
The program consisted entirely of works by the composer, including several world and regional premieres, as well as a performance of her multimovement “Folk Mass.”
Both Stevens and Jēkabsone gave vocal and choral workshops during the week at several area high schools, including an extended day at Amherst High School working with the school’s outstanding choral program.
