Dr. Tom Delaney has been named interim director of St. Bonaventure University’s Center for Student Wellness. He begins work today.
Delaney, who retired from St. Bonaventure in 2011 after 40 years with the School of Education, replaces Dr. Roger Keener, who resigned in December.
“We’re grateful that someone of Tom’s stature, both at St. Bonaventure and in the greater Olean community, has agreed to step in,” said Rick Trietley, vice president for Student Affairs. “We will immediately begin a national search for a permanent replacement, but having Dr. Delaney in place now gives us a well-founded sense of stability for one of our most important student life services.”
A professor emeritus at SBU, Delaney was largely responsible for the initiation of the psychological services component of the University Counseling Center and spearheaded the development of the mental health track for the counselor education program at St. Bonaventure in the early 1970s.
A licensed New York state psychologist, Delaney received the Professional Excellence in Service Award for faculty members in 2006.
Delaney has been the supervising psychologist at the ReHabilitation Center in Cattaraugus County since 1978. The agency serves the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities in pre-school, residential and day programs.
In addition to serving as the psychologist and supervising behavior specialists at the ReHab Center, Delaney has been involved in program planning, staff development, smoking cessation programs, and agency planning; he also chairs the agency’s Human Rights Committee.
