In September of 2024, the newly minted Writers & Publishers Room (Plassmann 001) opened with a typewriter-ribbon cutting. Part gallery, part library, part makerspace, the Writers & Publishers Room offers Literary Publishing and Editing and English
majors a space to study — and create.
Featuring a tabletop letterpress, vintage typewriters, zine-making tools, and a library of innovative publications, the room puts at students’ fingertips a bevy of tools to design and publish print works. After one year, the room is already bursting
with student publications. These include zines, broadsides, and magazines. Over the summer, faculty expect to add to the rooms’ physical and digital publishing resources.
