Warming House to benefit again from Olean baker’s generosity with sales through Aug. 12

Aug 7, 2020

Louie Proto is once again donating proceeds from sales of his artisan bread to the Warming House, St. Bonaventure’s student-run soup kitchen on North Union Street in Olean.

Bread sales from now until noon Wednesday, Aug. 12, will go to the Warming House. The first sale in late spring generated almost $1,500 for the Warming House.

“During this pandemic, I have been very aware of the role the Warming House plays in the Olean community,” said Alice Miller Nation, director of SBU’s Franciscan Center for Social Concern.

“Because of the great generosity of the community in so many ways and the commitment of the university, including faculty and staff, the Warming House is able to continue caring for the most vulnerable of our neighbors during these uncertain times. I can’t thank Louie enough for his support.”

During the pandemic, orders can only be placed online at https://www.luigispane.com/breads. The breads – 14 varieties in all – are prepared on Thursdays and baked on Fridays; customers are called when their orders are ready to be picked up.

The breads are also available after 3 p.m. on Fridays at Jim’s Park & Shop at the corner of Front and Main streets in Olean, and at Dom’s Butcher Block in Ellicottville.

All of the bakery’s breads are made with no preservatives. They are double bagged and gloves and masks are worn during preparation and handling.
