Bona's National Alumni Association Board announces newest leadership

May 18, 2020

Three members of St. Bonaventure University’s National Alumni Association Board (NAAB) have accepted leadership appointments, further demonstrating their strong commitment to the university’s mission and vision.

Effective July 1, Kayte Malik, ’03, succeeds Kevin Cleary, ’02, as president of the board; Stephanie Karnas, ’06, becomes vice president; Emily Ciraolo,’08,’09, continues another term as secretary; and Cleary assumes the role of past president. Each will serve a two-year term.

Malik holds a bachelor’s degree in business information systems from St. Bonaventure and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame. She is the director of portfolio management, Sportsbook Retail at Fanduel.

Karnas, who earned a bachelor’s degree in finance, is an administrative vice president in the Consumer Banking Division of M&T Bank.

Ciraolo holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication and a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications. She serves as assistant director of corporate communications at National Fuel Gas Company.

Cleary earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. Bonaventure and an MBA from Saint Joseph’s University. He is senior manager of Commercial Innovation at DIAGEO North America.

“The strong commitment our new board members bring to their roles is a boon for St. Bonaventure,” said Joe Flanagan, ’74, director of Alumni Services. “I am excited for the future. I also want to thank Kevin and the outgoing members for their dedication and excellent work.”

Outgoing board members whose terms will end June 30 include: Kristan McMahon,’97; Nick DeMarco, ’11; Fr. Joseph Gullo,’76; William Hogan, ’82, ’13; Kate O’Reilly,’03; and Meg Burt, ’82.

The members were involved in a number of initiatives during their tenure on the board, Flanagan noted, including reaching out to fellow alumni via phone calls, connecting with students through the Bonnies4Bonnies networking event, and volunteering at the Warming House, which is the university’s student-run soup kitchen.

The NAAB works to encourage alumni support of the academic mission, activities, spiritual programs, Franciscan heritage and reputation of the university. It provides alumni with information and opportunities for ongoing contact, and supports the Office of Alumni Services in developing participation in the Bonaventure community.
