Four St. Bonaventure University science majors presented posters at the 3rd annual Central New York Zebrafish Meeting, held in April at Syracuse University.

The students were accompanied by Dr. Sean Ryan, assistant professor of biology.

Eleven different zebrafish labs from universities and colleges in New York state and Canada attended the meeting, which included presentations and posters from undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and principal investigators.

The range of subjects included behavioral studies, developmental biology, toxicology and genetics, Ryan said.

Attending from St. Bonaventure were:

  • Keshav Seetharaman, a junior biology major from Shelby Township, Michigan, and Nithya Santhosh, a sophomore biology major from Belle Mead, New Jersey. They co-presented a poster on identification of gene regulatory regions in the notochord of embryonic zebrafish.

  • Erin McNell, a junior biochemistry major from Springville, New York, who presented a poster on the effects of disinfection byproducts in water on development of embryonic zebrafish.

  • Aparna Naik, a junior biology major from Hopewell, New Jersey, who presented a poster on the effects of potential endocrine disruptors on thyroid hormone production in embryonic zebrafish.
