SBU students invited to explore volunteer service opportunities and ‘transform yourself, transform the world’

Feb 6, 2019

St. Bonaventure students are invited to meet with representatives from a number of service organizations to learn about their volunteer opportunities during three upcoming events on campus.

Students will be able to learn more about a year of service with Franciscan Volunteer Ministry, a ministry of the Franciscan friars of Holy Name Province; Franciscan Volunteers: No Risk, No Gain, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia; Jesuit Volunteer Corps, the largest lay Catholic full-time volunteer program in the world; and Maggie’s Place, which provides life-changing programs and services for pregnant and parenting women and their children.

Students are invited to a discussion “Why Serve” at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the McGinley-Carney Center for Franciscan Ministry. Sr. Donna DelSanto, SSJ, from Rochester, New York, will share her experiences serving poor and marginalized people as a religious woman. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served.

On Wednesday, Feb. 13, a panel discussion will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Robert R. Jones Board of Trustees Room in Doyle Hall. A catered dinner will be provided. All are welcome; no reservations are needed.

A volunteer fair will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, in University Ministries beginning at 11:30 a.m. and includes a catered lunch. Reservations are not needed; all are welcome to attend.

The programs are sponsored by the university’s Franciscan Center for Social Concern and the Career and Professional Readiness Center.
