What do you do when you run out of room? You make more room.
The rise in popularity of St. Bonaventure’s men’s club hockey team, thanks to great success on the ice and the culture built away from the rink, has created the need for a second team.
The new club begins play this fall in Division 2 of the Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League.
“The development of a second club hockey team was the culmination of years of dedication from a number of individuals such as Taylor Rosenberg, our former coach; current Coach Jordan Farnham and his assistant, Michael Granger; and Margot Hickey, our assistant director for Intramurals and Club Sports,” said Rob DeFazio, associate dean for Student Life.
“And Fr. Dave Blake, our team chaplain, has been instrumental in building a team culture that has extended beyond the players to include all family members. High school players looking to continue their careers have heard about our program and want to play here.”
The Bonnies have dominated play in Division 1 of the UNYCHL the last few years, reaching the Collegiate Hockey Federation Cup tournament each time it’s been played.
The influx of new talent will allow Farnham to move players between teams as needed, for either talent or injury reasons.
The two clubs will play different schedules, with the D-1 team opening Sept. 29 and the new squad opening Oct. 14. For more information on club hockey at St. Bonaventure, click here.
