NYSACAC Annual Conference  |  June 7-9

The Annual New York State Association for College Admission Counseling Conference brings together colleagues who serve college-bound students in New York State for exciting professional development and networking opportunities.

The theme of this year’s conference is “The Intersection of Heart & Mind,” focusing on the our passion for each other and our constituencies, and our pursuit of knowledge in order to make a positive impact on our communities and our profession.

 

Annual Conference Keynote: Eric Hoover
 
Eric Hoover, Senior Writer, Chronicle of Higher Education
Eric Hoover, Keynote SpeakerEric Hoover is a senior writer for the Chronicle of Higher Education, the nation's largest newsroom dedicated to covering colleges and universities.

He has written extensively about college access, admissions, standardized testing, and student diversity since 2001. His articles have also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Washington Monthly, and Nautilus.

Eric has received numerous journalism awards: He is a two-time winner of the Education Writers Association’s Eddie Prize, which recognizes distinguished reporting on the challenges facing low-income students, and a recipient of Eugene S. Pulliam National Journalism Writing Award, for feature writing.

Eric earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Virginia in 1997, and lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife, journalist Emily Heil.

Coming Together Conference |  June 6-7

This year we celebrate the 26th Annual Coming Together Conference (CTC). Organized by NYSACAC's Coming Together Committee, the intention is to create a space where professionals can engage in thought-provoking conversations and share best practices around equity, inclusion, access, and success in post-secondary education.

It is an opportunity for reconnecting and relationship-building. Coming Together will continue to foster a practitioner-focused culture by utilizing a variety of formats that encourage open and honest conversations.

 

Coming Together Keynote: Akil Bello
 
Akil Bello, Founder & CEO, Bello Education
AkilBelloWebsiteAkil Bello is an educator, entrepreneur, and standardized test expert. He is the founder and CEO of Bello Education, a test preparation and educational consulting company. Bello is also a co-founder and former CEO of Bell Curves, a test preparation company that has helped thousands of students improve their test scores.

Bello is known for his expertise in standardized testing, particularly the SAT and ACT. He has trained hundreds of teachers and tutors in test preparation strategies, and has served as a consultant to school districts and educational organizations. Bello is also a frequent speaker at conferences and has written articles on education and test preparation for various publications.

In addition to his work in education, Bello is also a musician and songwriter. He has released several albums and has performed at venues across the United States. Bello holds a bachelor's degree in music from Columbia University and a master's degree in education from the City College of New York.
