Feb 06, 2023

Shimsky for webMaryJane Shimsky, who represents the 92nd District in the New York State Assembly, will address the university community on leadership and integrity in a campus talk at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, in Dresser Auditorium of the Murphy Building.

The event, presented by the Foster Center for Responsible Leadership at St. Bonaventure, is open to the campus community only. There is no charge.

Shimsky, elected to the Assembly in November 2022, represents a Hudson Valley district that includes most of the town of Greenburgh, the town of Mount Pleasant, and part of northwest Yonkers. She had previously served on the Westchester County Board of Legislators since 2011.

Shimsky graduated from Yale University in 1982, earned her law degree from New York University School of Law in 1985, and her Ph.D. in history from the City University of New York in 2007. She worked for four years as an assistant district attorney in the Appeals Bureau of the New York County (Manhattan) District Attorney’s Office, and taught history and geography at the former Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York.

“Assembly member Shimsky’s message is that values, integrity and hard work are the keys to a happy and successful life, a message that pairs perfectly with the mission of the Foster Center for Responsible Leadership,” said Dr. Michael Gallagher, associate professor of finance and Foster Center director. “St. Bonaventure is fortunate to have such esteemed leaders speak to our community on issues so closely aligned with our Franciscan values and tradition.”
