As a collegiate educator, my principal goal is to inspire students to develop increased awareness of their interests, strengths, and values, so that they will be well-equipped to confidently represent their expertise in inter-professional work settings and to engage with multifaceted social complications. I believe that it is vital for practitioners in training to learn to assess the ways in which historical and political settings affect their regions of interest and practice settings. My teaching philosophy will be demonstrated through individualizing the learning method, implementing a vigorous and comprehensive learning environment, and incorporating ethical and social justice theory, along with the essential tools for ethical reasoning into relevant courses. My teaching philosophy incorporates an active learning environment that will promote critical thinking via assigned readings, as well as afford students the opportunity to self-reflect and participate in group discussions.
It is important to me to provide students with 1:1 meetings, so that they can fully express their viewpoints and feel a sense of understanding as it relates to the dignity and worth of a person. I will challenge myself to engage with students who may be from non-traditional or underprivileged backgrounds, as I believe it is highly important to their classroom learning success. This will also demonstrate an active pedagogical social justice standpoint. My goal as a Higher Education Professional is to continuously educate collegiate students while encouraging them to be active advocates and change agents in the Social Work profession.
