Oct 11, 2019

Dr. Chris Mackowski, professor of communication and associate dean of the Jandoli School, was an invited keynote speaker at Civil War conferences in California and Oklahoma. He also presented at the American Battlefield Trust's National Teacher Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he gave a workshop on how to develop tours at historical sites.

Also in North Carolina, he led a "Civil War to Civil Rights" tour at Bennett Place, site of the largest Confederate surrender in the Civil War, and one in Durham, scene of several significant events in the civil rights movement.

In September, he was an invited speaker at the Douglas MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk, Virginia, where he talked about MacArthur's Civil War ancestors during the May 1864 Battle of the Wilderness.
