Dr. Connie PerkinsDr. Connie Perkins, founding director of Nursing at St. Bonaventure University, has been elected president of the American Nurses Association-New York (ANA-NY).

Perkins was sworn in at the association’s annual conference, held Oct. 21-23; the term is for two years.

“Being elected by such a large group of professional peers is a true honor and an important part of my journey to give back to the profession that is part of my DNA,” Perkins said. “Over the next two years as president, I plan to advocate for real change in New York state and find ways to partner with other health care disciplines along the way, something we’ve never done before as an organization.”

ANA-NY was incorporated in 2012 to provide nurses in New York state a voice within the American Nurses Association. Its mission is to foster high standards of nursing and promote the professional and educational advancement of nurses to improve health care for all.

“We are excited to continue the relevance and growth of ANA-NY under Dr. Perkins’ leadership,” said Dr. Jeanine Santelli, ANA-NY executive director. “Dr. Perkins’ fresh perspective will be essential for reaching and meeting the needs of younger generations of the nursing workforce.”
