      PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

I have much experience in health care, primarily as a communicator. I worked at Catholic Health in Buffalo in creative services developing messaging for internal and external audiences. I am a leader having served as dean of the Jandoli School of Communication and Dean of Graduate Studies at St. Bonaventure University. I currently teach in our graduate and undergraduate communication programs.

Throughout the pandemic, colleagues and I wrote editorials for our local newspaper, The Olean Times Herald, to help the community better understand what Covid is, why mask wearing is important, and what the “new normal” looks like.

Additionally, I am adept at using different communication tools and different communication tactics in disseminating information. I can easily determine my audience and its needs and adjust messaging appropriately. I also practice servant leadership in that I assess what my team needs and wants and provide it, if I can. I work in the trenches alongside them.

Also during the pandemic, I looked at my colleagues, my neighbors, my friends and I saw confusion. I saw the proliferation of misinformation. I saw a movement away from science and reason to one of fantasy and outright lies. As a result, I started a podcast and associated blog/newsletter (DataDoyenne and WTF? (What the Facts?)), and book: Fake News, Witch Hunts & Conspiracy Theories: An Infodemiologist’s Guide to the Truth, to help stem the tide of misinformation and to move us back to a place where science and reason reign. I am able to navigate through many forms of data, interpret it and communicate it. I also make data-driven, strategic decisions and communicate them appropriately.
