Placement in ENG 101 & ENG 102


Two of the Required Specific Courses for the General Education Requirements are ENG 101. Writing I and ENG 102. Writing II. Placement in these courses is determined by the student's SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing (ERW) score, ACT score, AP English Exam score, or high school GPA, as shown below.

  • Placement based on SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing (ERW) score
    • score of 490 or below: placed in ENG 100. Fundamentals of Written English.
    • score between 500 and 650: placed in ENG 101.
    • score greater than 650: placed in ENG 102.
  • Placement based on ACT score
    • score below 20: placed in ENG 100. Fundamentals of Written English.
    • score between 20 and 27: placed in ENG 101.
    • score above 27: placed in ENG 102.
  • Placement based on AP English Exam score
    • score of 3: credit for ENG 101 and placed into ENG 102.
    • score of 4 or 5: credit for both ENG 101 and ENG 102.
  • Placement based on high school GPA
    • GPA of 83 or below: placed in ENG 100.
    • GPA of 84 or above: placed in ENG 101.
