My background as a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist is very diverse. While I have spent the past 29 years primarily in the Missouri Public School System focusing on the Identification, Assessment, and Remediation of school-aged speech and language delays, I also spent 4 years as an Assistant Professor at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, teaching both undergraduate and graduate students and advising their Capstone Research. Additionally, I worked for Missouri First Steps providing in-home therapy for children from birth through age 3 for several years, which helped me develop a keen sense of the importance of the team-based care approach to therapy.
I am passionate about many areas of our profession, not just on the way we serve our clients with excellence as SLPs but also ensuring that we are taking the time to advocate for ourselves as professionals in the workplace. My areas of interest are secondary education assessment and intervention, language and literacy development, mentorship and prevention of burnout/stress in our profession, career placement and planning for students with disabilities from age 18 on, and Executive Functioning Disorders.
