SBU's Hindman active in roles with Association for Play Therapy

Mar 21, 2025

In her role as a member of the Ethics and Practice Guidelines Committee for the national Association for Play Therapy (APT), Dr. Margaret Hindman, assistant professor of Counselor Education, was a reviewer for the 2025 updates for the Play Therapy Best Practices: Clinical, Professional & Ethical Issues.

Additionally, this March, she was a lead creator of a new resource for play therapists, "Ethical Considerations for Incorporating Artificial Intelligence in Play Therapy: A reflective exercise for play therapists based on the Association for Play Therapy’s Best Practice Guidelines." This resource provides reflective questions and information about how to use AI with play therapy ethically.

This March, an article Hindman was invited to write with a colleague about AI and play therapy was published in APT’s Play Therapy Magazine: The Ethical Frontier of AI in Play Therapy: Challenges and Opportunities.

Also this March, Hindman was invited by APT’s CEO to serve with four other APT leaders on the new Clinical Advisory Committee. This is a consultative committee that offers expert guidance by reviewing summaries of relevant information and providing recommendations to the CEO while ensuring privacy of registrants, approved providers, and members.
