Kicior awarded Powel Honors Award from Alfred University

Sep 10, 2024

Nicholas Kicior, adjunct instructor of Counselor Education at SBU and an advanced doctoral student at Alfred University, was awarded AU's 2024 Lea R. Powell Honors Award.

Presented annually at AU's Honors Convocation, the award is presented to a doctoral student in school psychology for outstanding achievement in research, teaching, clinical practice, and/or service to the program, the university, or the community.

The award was established to honor Lea Rood Powell, a former Alfred University Board of Trustees member and generous supporter of Alfred University. In 1994, Powell established the Lea R. Powell Institute for Children and Families at Alfred University, a state-of-the-art child and family mental health treatment center and graduate student training facility. It supports the training, service, and research activities undertaken by the Division of Counseling and School Psychology through AU's Child and Family Services Center.

Kicior was selected from among doctoral students who are in their third year of coursework, completing an internship, or who are in their early career.

Kicior received a monetary gift and his name will be engraved on a plaque in the Powell Institute.
