Area girls will have the opportunity to meet college female athletes and try various sports during the second annual Girls in Sports event Friday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Bonaventure University.
All girls
age 9 to 12 are invited to participate. Collaborating on the event are St. Bonaventure, Girl Scouts of Western New York, and the United Way of Cattaraugus County.
The St. Bonaventure women’s Division I soccer, basketball, softball and lacrosse teams and the club rugby and volleyball teams will provide sports clinics for the girls in the Sandra A. & William L. Richter Center on campus. No sports experience
is necessary and all skill levels are welcome.
During the event, girls can also participate in a yoga clinic and parents are invited to attend a health awareness clinic. A boxed meal will be provided to the participants.
For more information about the Sept. 20 event or to register, visit http://uwcattco.org/ or contact the United Way at info@uwcattco.org or (716) 372-3620.
The program is supported by Western New York Girls in Sports, which was founded by Mary Wilson, wife of former Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson Jr., in 2006, with the goal of enhancing girls’ lives through participation in sports. Wilson’s
passion for sports was the motivation for creating WNY GIS and developing its focus on teaching young girls and women the important life lessons that sports offer.
