Schools, community organizations invited to tap into university’s expertise

Sep 15, 2014 |

St. Bonaventure Speakers Bureau members available
to speak on topics from pop culture to privacy in the digital age

A new Speakers Bureau at St. Bonaventure University offers experts from a variety of disciplines to speak at no charge to high school classes, high school assemblies, community groups, school and youth organizations, and businesses. Experts are also available for media interviews.

From history, literature, mathematics, art, athletics and education to business, STEM career planning and pop culture, St. Bonaventure faculty and staff are pleased to share their experience and research with surrounding community organizations.

“I hope the surrounding school and community organizations will avail themselves of the expertise of professors and staff from St. Bonaventure University, supplementing programs they already offer,” said Dr. Barry Gan, a longtime philosophy professor at St. Bonaventure and director of the university’s Center for Nonviolence. Gan is also chair of the university’s Faculty Senate.

The university has a long tradition in the arts and sciences, and now offers more than 50 undergraduate majors and programs in its school of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, and Journalism and Mass Communication. That means whether an organization is looking for an expert on Greek archeology or privacy in the digital age, St. Bonaventure faculty have myriad professional and personal topics they are willing to talk about.

“St. Bonaventure was recently named the No. 3 best value in the north (No. 1 best value in New York) by U.S. News and World Report. The Speakers Bureau provides our region’s schools and organizations with access to the faculty expertise that has made that ranking possible,” said University President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F.A list of speakers and topics is available at www.sbu.edu/speakers. The website also has an electronic form to request a speaker. Requests should be made at least four weeks in advance.
