St. Bonaventure University has signed an agreement with the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology to host five scientific conferences during the summer of 2018.
Founded in 1912, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) was originally created by three independent scientific organizations to provide a forum in which to hold educational meetings, develop publications, and disseminate biological research results. What started as a small group of dedicated scientists has grown to be the nation’s largest coalition of biomedical researchers, representing 31 scientific societies and more than 130,000 researchers from around the world.
FASEB conducts 70 scientific conferences that convene every two to three years around the world.
“St. Bonaventure is pleased to have been selected as a host location for five of these events. Our team has worked tirelessly to close this deal,” said Caitlin Webster, director of the Office of Events and Conferences at the university.
During the months of June, July and August in 2018, St. Bonaventure will be hosting the following conferences: The Molecular Biophysics of Membranes, Retinal Neurobiology and Visual Processing, Dynamic DNA Structures in Biology, Protein Folding in the Cell, and The Lung Epithelium in Health and Disease.
FASEB Science Research Conferences promote dialogue among investigators in the biomedical field. As host location, St. Bonaventure will welcome to the campus prominent scientists, faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students working in areas experiencing rapid scientific advances. Conference presenters include those conducting cutting-edge research in their field of study. Conference attendance averages between 100 and 150 participants per session with an estimated 650 guests to stay on campus during these five conferences.
The Office of Events and Conferences at St. Bonaventure will assist conference guests with accommodations, meals and program activities utilizing campus assets. Additional recreational, shopping and dining opportunities will also be arranged throughout the region so that conference guests may take advantage of local tourist activities and attractions during their stay.
St. Bonaventure Event Sales and Marketing Manager Jennifer Pulver is enthusiastic about the economics of this partnership.
“Not only will the economic impact of bringing 650 conference attendees benefit the university, but it will also resonate within the tourism industry of the county. That’s a win for everyone,” Pulver said.
