A manuscript by Dr. Scott Simpson and Dr. Kellie Gast, assistant professors of chemistry; Patrick Schneider, visiting lecturer of chemistry; and Madeleine Wedvik, a senior chemistry major from Westerly, Rhode Island, was accepted to the open-access journal Chemistry Teacher International.

The article, titled "Quantum Chemical Exercise Linking Quantum Mechanics to General Chemistry Topics," details an experiment that was tested for its educational merits in which general chemistry students utilize quantum chemical simulations to make predictions about experiments.

The Leo E. Keenan Faculty Endowment supported the purchase of all materials and equipment to conduct the study. These funds were made available through a $2 million gift from Leslie C. and Eileen Quick III.
