ST BONAVENTURE UNIVERSITY :: 3261 WEST STATE ROAD :: ST. BONAVENTURE, NY 14778 :: (716) 375-2000

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Pictured: Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D.
Grazie mille! Go raibh maith agat! Thank you very much!
St. Bonaventure University recently completed the most comprehensive campaign in its history, surpassing a $90 million goal by almost $5 million. I am sure we are hearing the echoes of thanks from our Italian and Irish founders who began this quest so many years ago.

With this being just the second edition of the Devereux E-Newsletter, I want to extend my personal thanks to all of you. Do you know that since the beginning philanthropy of Nicholas and Mary Devereux, the University can boast more than 1,400 Devereux and Young Grotto leaders?

Beginning later this year, the University will host several high-profile Devereux events in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I would be delighted if you could join us for one of these Bonaventure destination weekends. Invite an old classmate to join you, or bring a new friend. I will be the guest speaker at the New York City event, presenting "Angels, Demons and Dilemmas: Life in the 21st Century." Each gathering will carry on the brown and white tradition plus enlarge it with new energy.

If you have not yet done so, I encourage all alumni to join Bona's Online, which is our onlinPictured: Bona's Online logoe community. As a member, you will receive exclusive benefits such as searchable online directories, online registration for member-only events, online profile, address update capabilities, and communication from us. Bona's Online was created with you in mind. Please visit often for current news and exciting events.

Sincerely,
Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D.
President

BONAVENTURE FUND TO EXPAND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Pictured: SBU Students
In an effort to reach out to a greater number of constituents, the Office of Annual Giving is expanding its volunteer opportunities on behalf of the annual unrestricted Bonaventure Fund.

A Class Agent Volunteer program has been developed and will focus on class-based fundraising utilizing volunteers from classes which celebrated Reunion in the previous year. Class Agent volunteers for fiscal year 2009-2010 will be recruited from classes ending in '04 and '09.

The program is structured for peer-to-peer engagement on behalf of the annual Bonaventure Fund. Unrestricted gifts provide critical support for the University's current needs, such as scholarships, extra-curricular activities, leadership training, academic program enhancement and facilities upgrades. Volunteers partner with the Annual Fund Office to ensure their classmates maintain or increase their gifts to St. Bonaventure University, to retain updated contact information on the database, and to reconnect with fellow alumni on behalf of their alma mater.

In order to provide the tools needed to be a successful volunteer, St. Bonaventure is hosting a Volunteer Leadership Weekend on campus October 2 - 3, 2009. University volunteers invited to attend include:

  • Alumni Chapter Chairs
  • Class Agents
  • Corporate Cup Captains (Matching Gift program)
  • Faculty and Staff Co-chairs
  • National Alumni Association Board Members
  • Reunion Co-chairs

The agenda will include guest speakers, volunteer training and panel discussions. If you would like more information on Volunteer Leadership Weekend, please contact Andrea Bidell, director of the annual fund at (716) 375-2301. You can register online no later than September 23.
