St. Bonaventure University’s graduate programs in Differentiated Instruction have received professional recognition by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC).
NAGC is the professional body in gifted education that provides guidance and oversight for gifted education from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, as well as for colleges and universities that prepare teachers of the gifted.
In order to be recognized, a program must submit documentation that it meets 28 separate elements fulfilling seven overarching standards. The documentation consists of assessments given to students in the graduate program and the data from these assessments. Faculty in the program design course assessments and field work to align with the 28 NAGC elements.
“This recognition is significant as the School of Education works toward CAEP accreditation in 2022,” said Dr. René Hauser, program director and associate professor.
St. Bonaventure’s School of Education is accredited now by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
NCATE merged in 2013 with the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) to form the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Two St. Bonaventure programs received recognition: the Differentiated Instruction program that leads to gifted teacher certification in New York state; and the Differentiated Instruction – Special Education program that leads to both gifted and special education teacher certification in New York state.
Both programs are offered at St. Bonaventure’s main campus in Allegany and at SBU’s Buffalo Center on the Hilbert College campus in Hamburg.
