ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Earl McElfresh, whose watercolor maps of Civil War battlefields are the subject of an exhibition at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, will give a gallery lecture at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.
McElfresh’s talk, titled “Seeing the Civil War Again for the First Time: Creating Civil War Maps,” will take place in the Quick Center’s Winifred Shortell Kenney Gallery, where his “Four Score and Seven” exhibition runs through May 31.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the talk.
McElfresh is the cartographer for McElfresh Map Company of Olean, which has been producing detailed maps of historical events since 1993. His maps are designed to be definitive topographical portrayals of historical events and are known for their accuracy, comprehensiveness and artistry.
The exhibition features maps of Civil War battlefields, particularly Gettysburg, and is accompanied by a timeline of Civil War events.
Quick Center galleries are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the Quick Center is free and open to the public year round.
