The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts will hold its sixth annual Family Day, filled with activities throughout the galleries, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The fun starts at 12 p.m. with a series of fun and spooky activities designed with the entire family in mind. Children can enjoy activities throughout the museum, including “Create Your Own Custom Superhero” and “Dress Up As Your Favorite Work From The Quick Center’s Art Collection.”
Origami activities are being offered in the Marianne Letro Laine Gallery and smaller children can attend a story hour while being surrounded by John Rogers statuary groups in the museum mezzanine.
Guided tours of the museum galleries are available and all these activities can be enjoyed by all family members for free.
At 2 p.m., Kit’s Interactive Theatre will present “The Sleepy Hollow Halloween Show,” which takes place in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., circa 1799. Karina Van Tassle reveals the secret adventure of Ichabod Crane, hobgoblins abound, skeletons high-step in a graveyard, and even Rip Van Winkle makes an appearance in this spooky – but not scary - Halloween tale.
Tickets to the performance are free for the entire family and can be obtained by visiting the Quick Center Box Office or by calling (716) 375-2494.
Guests are welcome to attend the performance of “The Sleepy Hollow Halloween Show” only or to stay for the entire afternoon. The day promises to be hours of fun and education. The afternoon will be rounded off with a cookies and punch reception at 3 p.m.
Family Day at the Quick Center is sponsored by a generous grant from the Cutco Foundation.
“We are very grateful to the Cutco Foundation for making all this possible,” said QCA Executive Director Ludwig Brunner. “It is the perfect opportunity for families to enjoy an afternoon at the QCA and learn about the arts in general and the QCA’s varied art collections and exhibitions in particular. We hope to welcome many families from Olean and the surrounding areas, and we hope that they come back many times as the center’s admission is free and open to the public year round.”
Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
