St. Bonaventure University invites alumni, family and friends to “Rise to the Challenge” and help today’s Bonnies with a gift to The Bonaventure Fund during its second annual #BonaGivingDay.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m., Feb. 23, the 24-hour fundraising event will offer participants the chance to join various giving challenges, create their own fun challenge or simply support a participant or team. Giving challenges, updates and student stories will be highlighted throughout the day.
“The Bonaventure community is known for giving back, which is why #BonaGivingDay is such an exciting event,” said Karen Heitzinger, director of Annual Giving. “Friendly challenges throughout the day and night fuel participation and generate enthusiasm. Everyone can play a role — by donating, sharing social media posts and encouraging others to rise to the challenge.”
Gifts will be counted for all 24 hours on Feb. 23. While the focus will be online donations, any checks dated Feb. 23 and phone donations made that day will also be counted.
Several university trustees and lead donors aim to inspire others with challenge gifts, Heitzinger said, adding that the challenges will be shared through social media and online at www.sbu.edu/bonagivingday.
Beginning this year, #BonaGivingDay will be held in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend. The weekend includes Bona Pride Day, where alumni worldwide demonstrate their Bonaventure pride by wearing Bona gear and posting photos to social media.
The goal is that all alumni and friends of the university will join in with a gift on #BonaGivingDay and follow that up by sporting Bona gear on Bona Pride Day. All donations will benefit The Bonaventure Fund, which enhances the lives of students by providing scholarship aid and academic support.
Last spring, the university’s first-ever giving day garnered more than 600 gifts and raised more than $325,000.
“We’re hoping to top those totals and translate the support into enhanced student services and aid,” Heitzinger said. “Every gift, no matter the amount, will make a huge difference across campus.”
