SUMMER 2017
Class Notes
Dear friends and fellow alumni,
My 20th Reunion was this June. (My
classmates described it as the second an-
niversary of our 10th Reunion to ease the
shock.)
As always, it was a delight to personally
reconnect with classmates, friends, and
spouses, as well as forge new relationships
with members of other classes. We spent
some time reflecting on how much the campus and the school
have evolved not only since we were students, but even since
our last reunion.
This year has been one of significant change for our univer-
sity. New programs, such as cybersecurity and health sciences,
are getting off the ground. We have hired new deans for the
schools of Business, Education and Allied Health. We had a
second record-breaking year for The Bonaventure Fund. Our
May 1 enrollment numbers hit a five-year high. And, the 21st
president of our alma mater, Dr. Dennis DePerro, began his
tenure on June 1.
This April, I was fortunate to be among a small group of
alumni who made a pilgrimage with Dennis and Sherry De-
Perro to Assisi and Rome, where we walked in the shoes of
Saints Francis and Clare. Dr. DePerro has a strong foundation in
our Catholic Franciscan heritage from his time at Bishop Timon
High School in Buffalo. After the pilgrimage, he has an even
greater understanding of the Franciscanism that connects us to
each other and drives us to improve the worlds we touch.
Everyone who attended Alumni Reunion Weekend several
weeks ago had the opportunity to hear Dr. DePerro outline his
vision for the university. That won't be the only opportunity for
you to hear from him and how he plans to channel the passion
and love of our alumni into making St. Bonaventure even bet-
ter. This year's enrollment and annual fund numbers were
driven by your strong support. Thank you for referring poten-
tial students, participating in #BonaGivingDay and supporting
the annual fund, and working with students in and out of the
classroom.
Now, let's take this momentum and turn it into another strong
alumni push to help increase enrollment and a third consecutive
record-breaking year for The Bonaventure Fund.
If you are wondering how you can get involved and help,
please visit the alumni website at www.sbu.edu/alumni. I can't
wait to see your passion in action. Thank you for everything you
did this past year to make St. Bonaventure even better.
Pax et bonum,
Kristan McMahon, `97
