MARCH 4-8, A WEEK OF EVENTS COMMEMORATING ROBERT LAX

Three public lectures, archival exhibits, and a performance based on the poetry of Robert Lax are some of the highlights of a week’s activities celebrating the varied contributions of Robert Lax, Olean native and friend of Thomas Merton. St. Bonaventure has maintained an enduring relationship with his work and legacy.

The full schedule can be found on the link below. Lectures will be presented by Dr. Steve Georgiou, of the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, and Tuesday, March 5, in Walsh Auditorium and at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at the Olean Public Library.

An original composition inspired by Lax’s poetry will take place Friday, March 8, at the Quick Center, along with the viewing of a short documentary.

VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA)

The tenth year of the St. Bonaventure University Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program continues at a great pace. During the first three weeks of tax season, we have prepared more than 200 tax returns, generating over $450,000 in tax refunds for Cattaraugus County workers. This brings us to a cumulative 10-year total of over 3,300 tax returns and $5.25 million in tax refunds flowing into Cattaraugus County. The St. Bonaventure VITA program operates out of the United Way office at 807 W. State Street in Olean, N.Y.

The tax office is open six days per week with a variety of morning, afternoon, and evening appointments available. Cattaraugus County workers can call 716-373-2534 to see if they qualify for the free tax service and to set an appointment. We will be offering some appointment times during Spring Break, although not our full schedule. Phone messages will be checked daily, and callers will be contacted to arrange appointments.

With five weeks to go in “tax season,” no sleep ‘til Easter Break!
