MARTIN BLIND, '94, '97
Major Gifts Officer
For Marty Blind, Bona’s is a family tradition. His father, Joe, is a member of the class of 1962; one of his sisters, Suzanne, graduated in 1990; and he and his wife, Therese, '98, met at a Bonaventure reunion (they each earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree at St. Bonaventure).
As a Major Gifts Officer, Marty’s focus is to help the University move forward in its mission and provide today’s students with the same opportunities he and his family were afforded as students.
Marty joined the Advancement team in 2008 after a ten-year career in marketing and sales (and a two-year stint with Bonaventure’s Office of Admissions, recruiting students throughout the northeastern United States). Today, his territory includes Albany, N.Y.; Philadelphia, PA.; Michigan; Tennessee; North Carolina; Illinois; and the New England area.
Marty and Therese are parents to a trio of busy toddlers — Charlie, Marty, and Clara. Marty enjoys a game of golf or basketball whenever possible (though admits with a smile that’s not often enough!). He and his family reside in Hamburg, N.Y.

Director of Annual Giving
For Karen Heitzinger, becoming the Director of Annual Giving at St. Bonaventure is just another way for her to help the University family she has been so close to for years.
Before her fall 2016 promotion, Karen served St. Bonaventure as the Associate Director of Annual Giving as well as Manager of the Bonathon, a student-driven donation calling program.
Karen has worked as a professional fundraiser for more than a decade. In her new position, she oversees The Bonaventure Fund — the University’s annual giving program that provides support for scholarships, academic enhancements and student services.
Karen’s attention to detail while on the job is an added benefit during her leisure hours as she pursues her passions of gardening and cooking. When she isn’t fine-tuning a vegetable dish or plotting a flower garden, she can be found walking her favorite trails.
A native of Bradford, Pennsylvania, Karen now resides in Salamanca where she is a member of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Parish along with the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts.
Major Gifts Officer
Joseph Hoag sees his role as a Major Gifts Officer for the University as a continuation of a career-long ministry of providing people the opportunity to put their resources at the disposal of the Kingdom.
