Theater Program

SBU Theater

The fun is in the work well done.

The Theater Program at St. Bonaventure University, part of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, offers a major and a minor in Theater with courses in acting for stage and camera, directing, stagecraft and theater technology, voice and diction, styles and theater history, and more.

SBU Theater, our faculty-directed production season, presents contemporary and classical plays (and the occasional musical) in two theaters. Recent productions include "The Seagull," "Dracula," "As You Like It," “The Cover of Life,” “The Inner Above,” “Dog Stories,” “Metamorphoses,”  “Twelfth Night,” “The Devil's Disciple,” and three installments of our Festival of One-Act Plays including works by Harold Pinter, Samuel Beckett, Harry Kondoleon, Keith Huff, David Ives, Howard Brenton and others.

Any student may take theater courses, regardless of major or minor. SBU Theater productions are open to all members of the SBU community and auditions are the first Wednesday and Thursday of every semester.

Emily West's capstone project explains the reasons why students have become involved in the theater program offered at SBU. Filled with photos of past shows and quotes from students currently in the program, the project provides many reasons for why every student should give theater a chance. If you would like to see Emily's capstone project in full follow the link below.
