Dear St. Bonaventure University Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni, and Friends,
We’d like to provide the campus community with an update on our progress in the search for St. Bonaventure’s next president.
Over the past two months, Presidential Search Committee members and representatives from the search consulting firm Witt/Kieffer have conducted 12 group listening sessions with students, faculty, deans, administration, staff, alumni, friars, members of the Board of Trustees, and key community stakeholders. In addition, Dennis Barden and Ann Yates from Witt/Kieffer have participated in several one-on-one and small group discussion sessions.
In all of these conversations, we have asked for your input on the qualities, characteristics, experiences and competencies we should seek in the person who will become the 21st president of St. Bonaventure University. More than 100 email messages have been received on our presidential search website, some with confidential candidate recommendations and many others highlighting the qualities desired in the next SBU president.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to attend a listening session, or to submit feedback through the Presidential Search Input Form available on the Presidential Search website. Several key themes emerged over the course of our conversations with the campus community, and this information was integral to the Presidential Search Committee’s drafting of the position profile. This document is now publicly available on St. Bonaventure’s Presidential Search website as a national advertising campaign begins. This Presidential Profile will be given to prospective candidates to help them understand St. Bonaventure’s unique history, mission and opportunities.
In the coming months, Witt/Kieffer will begin identifying, recruiting, and evaluating applicants for review by the full Presidential Search Committee. This process will likely extend into the early fall, at which point the committee will begin interviewing candidates. During this portion of the search we will conduct our work with the confidentiality necessary to attract the strongest applicant pool, but we will continue to regularly update the campus community. We invite you to continue sending feedback and candidate recommendations to the Search Committee or directly to Executive Search Consultants Witt/Kieffer. All suggestions and nominations will be handled confidentially.
As outlined in January, current President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D., will retire on July 31, 2016, and become St. Bonaventure’s first president emeritus. We thank and celebrate Sr. Margaret’s remarkable 12 years leading St. Bonaventure!
Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Andrew Roth was named SBU’s interim president, effective Aug. 1, 2016. Dr. Roth will serve for the upcoming academic year, while the search for the 21st president continues. Our original search timeline continues to be met, as the nationwide public search will begin before the original date of June 30. The intention is to name the new president by Dec. 31, 2016, to be effective in July 2017.
Thank you for all of your support as we strive to bring the very strongest candidates to the Board of Trustees for their final decision before year’s end.
