The St. Bonaventure University community is being asked to rise to the challenge for the inaugural Bona Giving Day on April 21.
“What’s really going to make Bona Giving Day a success is involvement and excitement from our alumni base,” said Clarence Picard, director of annual giving at St. Bonaventure. “You know, the $25 gifts from our young alumni, the first-time donors — that’s going to make a huge difference.”
University trustees and leading donors plan to motivate alumni with more than $100,000 in challenge gifts to St. Bonaventure, which they hope will inspire a record day of giving, said Picard.
Challenges will be officially announced next week through social media and online at www.sbu.edu/givingday.
Inspired by the success of last year’s $100,000 Young Alumni Challenge, which was supported by university trustee Jim Meyer ’76 and his wife, Nina ’79, this year’s series of challenges has upped the ante and will ask for support from the entire alumni base — and will do so in a 24-hour period, said Picard.
Gifts will be counted for all 24 hours of April 21, from 12:01 a.m. until midnight, Picard said. He added the focus will be online donations, but any checks dated April 21 and phone donations made that day will also be counted.
Along with donating, Picard said all Bonnies can help by entering the conversations and building excitement on social media by retweeting, sharing and liking posts and videos about Bona Giving Day.
For more information about the day, updates and to make a donation on April 21, visit www.sbu.edu/givingday or call (716) 375-2253.
“We invite all alumni to rise to the challenge and join in with a gift,” Picard said. “If anyone has thought about giving, but hasn’t done so, this is the perfect opportunity.”
