DEAR
PARENTS AND FAMILIES OF NEW ST. BONAVENTURE STUDENTS:
There was much excitement on campus last week as classes began -
our new freshmen and transfer students arrived, and we are thrilled.
Move-in day was busy, and we saw many weary Moms and Dads…but
we hope that the help from the Peer Coaches and the ROTC students
eased your day somewhat. Our commuter students settled in, too,
in their new lounge on the 2nd floor of the Reilly Center. And now,
the “getting settled” time has transitioned to “now
it’s time to get to work”!
During our Welcome Days program, an extension of Orientation, we
made every effort to continue to help our new SBU students get settled
and become part of the University and ease the transition to college
life. More than 300 of our first-year students participated in service
projects – on campus and in the local community. It was a
great way for them to experience the Franciscan spirit on our campus.
I hope you know that we all share some of the same nervousness that
you might be experiencing - that positive, nervous energy that accompanies
a new beginning. Even though we greet new students every August,
we all recognize that each entering class is different. It's a new
beginning for your family and for us. We are delighted that we'll
be going through it with you - together.
Please be sure to make frequent visits to our Parents' Web site
at www.sbu.edu/parents.
And don't hesitate to contact us at parents@sbu.edu.
You can
expect to receive periodic e-mails from us that will update you
on campus happenings.
On behalf
of our entire community, welcome, once more, to our Bonaventure
family. We look forward to seeing many of you again later this month
at Family Weekend.
Best
regards,
Dr. Nancy
Casey
Director, First-Year Experience Program

New
book on SBU history
A story
that took more than 150 years to unfold and more than a decade to
research and write is now ready to read. A new coffee-table book,
“The Good Journey: 150 Years of History at St. Bonaventure
University,” is based on the exhaustive research of longtime
St. Bonaventure history Professor Edward Eckert, Ph.D., and edited
by the McCarthy family of Buffalo — alumni Bob, ’76,
Ann, ’74, and son, Dan, ’10. Watch videos, view historic
photos and read an excerpt at www.sbuhistory.com.

Family
Weekend!
We know
you just said good-bye to your student — but make plans to
reconnect during Family Weekend 2011. Activities during the Sept.
23-25 festivities include a street fair in Allegany, a 5K
walk-run on campus, a golf tournament, music,
a hypnotist, and Casino Night. Watch for updates at www.sbu.edu/FamilyWeekend.

St.
Bonaventure’s First-Year Experience and Student Life staff work
hard at making St. Bonaventure's incoming students feel a part of
the campus's fabric. One of the ways new students were introduced
to each other during July Orientation was by working collaboratively
on a number of fun and team-building exercises.
This year,
one of their small group projects was to discuss as a team their
hopes and aspirations for the next four years at Bona's - then illustrate
that onto a small panel of white muslin.
