SATURDAY VIGIL MASS STARTS THIS WEEKEND Because of student demand, University Ministries is adding a 4 p.m. Saturday Vigil Mass to our Mass schedule. This Saturday, Sept. 8, we will meet in the Chapel of St. Clare for our First Vigil Mass. All students, faculty and staff are welcome. The Chapel of St. Clare (formerly the Music Room) is located in the University Chapel, behind the Main Altar and across the hall from the sacristy. If you have any questions, contact Julianne Wallace, Associate Director of Faith Formation, Worship and Ministry (jwallace@sbu.edu). The new Business Center construction progressed this week with the placement of steel structure as far as the south end of the building. Installation of the decking for the second floor and roof has begun. Over the next two weeks, the crane will come around to the north end of the building and begin work on the entrance atrium there. Work may begin also on the concrete block masonry for the fire exit stairways. A number of people have remarked on the slope of the roof toward the center, as visible from the north side. This will be concealed by a parapet wall when the brickwork is completed. All “flat” roofs have some slope, which is used to direct rainwater toward the roof drains—in the center of the building in this case. See our webcams at www.sbu.edu/construction. QUICK CENTER OPENS SEASON WITH PRIZE-WINNING SINGERS The winners of the St. Bonaventure Performance Prize of the 2012 Liederkranz Competition – Stephanie Lauricella, mezzo-soprano, and Samuel Levine, tenor – will open the concert season at The Regina A. He made his international debut at the 2009 Wexford Festival in Ireland and has performed with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Chicago Opera Theater, and the Aspen Music Festival. In the first half of the program Ms. Lauricella and Mr. Levine will sing opera arias including their prize winning arias from the Liederkranz Competition, and after intermission will perform a selection of musical theater and cabaret-style songs from the New York stages in opening the Quick Center’s theme for 2012/13: Celebrate New York!
