NOV. 3 MOUNTAIN AUCTION NEARLY SOLD OUT

The Nov. 3 Mountain Auction is nearing a sellout – so make your reservation now! This year’s auction to benefit Mt. Irenaeus will feature travel packages, sports memorabilia and gourmet dinners, among other offerings of local products and services.

To make your reservation, call Michelle Marcellin at 375-2096. The cost is $50 and includes cocktails, a buffet, passed hors d’oeuvres and desserts. The Nov. 3 event begins with a 5 p.m. Mass in the University Chapel, followed by the auction at 6 p.m.

The auction features an evening with more than 300 gifts, most offered by silent auction and a select few in the exciting, fast-moving verbal auction. Among the travel packages are use of a condo at Little Oak Island near Charleston, S.C.; a Finger Lakes overnight; airfare, lodging and tickets to Milwaukee to see Andrew Nicholson and the Orlando Magic; and a week’s stay in the White Mountains of Arizona. Local offerings include a family membership to the Cuba Lake Yacht Club, gourmet dinner for 12 at the Mountain, and a cocktail party for 25 at a Cuba Lake Home.

SEEKING ABR NOMINATIONS

The All Bonaventure Reads (ABR) Committee is seeking nominations for the 2013 ABR selection. Each year the committee considers dozens of books in an effort to identify an engaging book that will be relevant to our incoming freshmen class. In making our selection, we attempt to choose a book that is riveting, less than 400 pages and current. In addition, it should be a book that high school students are unlikely to have already read.

Finally, it is a bonus if we can find a book by an author who is a terrific speaker and available for a reasonable fee. We welcome recommendations from faculty, staff and students.

Please send your recommendations to Jean Ehman (Chair) at jehman@sbu.edu; Chris Brown at cbrown@sbu.edu or Carol Fischer at cfischer@sbu.edu. Thank you.
