JAMESTOWN GRADUATE STUDENT TO SPEAK AT SBU'S DECEMBER RECOGNITION CEREMONY

Jeremiah Lee, an integrated marketing communications major from Jamestown, will address his classmates at St. Bonaventure University’s December Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Lee is a multimedia designer at Truck-Lite, a Falconer-based firm that specializes in global manufacturing and distribution of visibility systems to the heavy duty truck, trailer and commercial industries.

The ceremony, recognizing those who will complete undergraduate and graduate degree requirements this semester, begins at 6 p.m. in the University Chapel in Doyle Hall.

Also at the recognition ceremony, Dr. René Garrison, associate professor in the School of Education, will give the faculty address.

University president Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D., will welcome the graduates and their families. Dr. Peggy Y. Burke, associate provost and dean of the School of Graduate Studies, will serve as master of ceremonies.

Dr. Joseph Zimmer, dean of the School of Education, will present the graduate students. Dr. Pierre Balthazard, dean of the School of Business, will present the undergraduate students.

BASKETBALL PARKING REGULATIONS

Due to the basketball game Saturday, Dec. 15, the Security Department is asking for the cooperation of all students, faculty and staff pertaining to the following:

• The outdoor basketball courts will be blocked off for parking all day Saturday. Please do not attempt to park there or move barricades. Violators will be ticketed and may be towed.

• Anyone parking behind the Reilly Center (Employee Lot Q) should move their vehicle by 11 a.m. Violators will be ticketed and may be towed.

• Students parking in the student parking near the Observatory (Student Lot G) should move their vehicle by 11 a.m. Violators will be ticketed and may be towed. Security parking details will be in place prior to all men’s home games and will only allow A and B pass holders through the checkpoints.

HOLIDAY STUDENT PAYROLL CHANGES

The student pay date of Dec. 21 remains unchanged. All checks will be mailed to the address currently on file in the Payroll office. Direct deposit funds will be available on Dec. 21. Pay advices will be available online for viewing.

Student electronic timesheets for the two-week pay period ending Friday, Dec. 21, should be completed and submitted for approval by 12 noon on Wednesday, Dec. 26. Supervisors will have until 12 noon on Thursday, Dec. 27, to approve the timesheets. The pay date of Friday, Jan. 4, remains unchanged. All checks will be mailed to the address currently on file with the Payroll Office. Direct deposit funds will be available on Jan. 4. Pay advices will be available online for viewing.

The address currently listed on your check or pay advice will be used for the W-2 mailing address. Any address changes must be sent in writing to the Payroll Office no later than Dec. 19.

STUDENTS TO PROPERLY WELCOME VCU TO THE REILLY CENTER

The St. Bonaventure Bonnies are going to need your support to “Shock Shaka.” Shaka Smart and the VCU Rams make their first trip to the Reilly Center in 35 years at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12. Come back a day early from break and Rock the RC on TV once again! St. Bonaventure University dorms will be open on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Shaka Smart led VCU in the 2011 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Tickets start at just $16 while group tickets are only $10. Full time students and/or those paying the student activity fee with a valid ID are free and must use the student entrance on the northeast corner of the RC by the swimming pool (facing the Richter Center).

As a reminder to all students, SBU is not responsible for securing your valuables left over break. You are encouraged to take high dollar items home with you to prevent any potential issues upon your return to school.

The Safety and Security Department will be on duty during the entire break period conducting routine patrols of all areas, including the parking lots; however, students are encouraged to take home cash, credit cards, computers, smart devices, high value jewelry, and other high dollar items that may be easily pilfered. If items must be left behind, ensure that they are locked securely in your room.

MEMBERS OF SBU MOCK TRIAL TEAM GARNER AWARDS AT FRIAR FACEOFF TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to all of the members of the SBU mock trial team who won awards at the Friar Faceoff invitational mock trial tournament held December 1-2 on the SBU campus. Winning outstanding attorney awards were: Allie Perl, Sebastian Bellm and Caitlin Brown. Outstanding witness awards went to: Dan Kerns (the top witness at the tournament), Jasmine Mangum and Sebastian Bellm (yes, he won an attorney award and a witness award!).

Many thanks to all members of the SBU faculty and staff who volunteered time to help judge. Your generosity is very much appreciated! A special thank you goes to the tournament director, Alex Noguerola, without whose tireless efforts this tournament would not have happened.

Intermediate Word: In this workshop we will look at using headers and footers, tables, mail and label merges.

Outlook – The Calendar: Learn how to find the calendar view that suits you best, set up appointments, schedule meetings and share your calendar. Then we will look at some ways to manage your mailbox, create email signatures, set up automatic replies and more.

ARABIC STUDIES IN SPAIN/MOROCCO

The University of Seville, Spain, will offer its Intensive Arabic Language and Culture summer program to study abroad students, from May 30-July 20, 2013. Students will take Arabic Language at one of three levels. A seven-day guided excursion to Morocco will conclude the summer session.

Cost for the entire program is $7,250 and includes tuition, room/meals, ten city cultural visits, three field trips to Spanish sites, and the week-long field study in Morocco. Places are limited and early application is recommended.
