EDUCATION FACULTY, ALUMNA, TO PRESENT AT NARACES CONFERENCE Dr. Barbara Trolley, professor in the Counselor Education Program, has had three presentation proposals in conjunction with colleagues and an alumna accepted for the NARACES (North Atlantic Region Association for Counselor Education and Supervision) conference in Sept. 2012. Trolley is the lead presenter for a 90-minute workshop titled “Cyber bullying & Cyber balance: What Every Counselor Needs to Know” with alumna Constance Hanel. She is also the lead presenter with Dr. Christopher Siuta, assistant professor of Counselor Education, for a one-hour educational session on “Counseling Programs' Transition: Integrating Practicality While Maintaining Quality.” Trolley will also be the co-presenter with lead presenter Dr. Alan Silliker, associate professor of Counselor Education, for a 60-minute educational session titled “Online and Hybrid Approaches to School Counseling Internship.” Do you love those SBU Planners from your freshmen year? On Saturday we will leave at 10:30 a.m. and on Sunday we will leave at 11 a.m. Saturday's work will consist of installing handrails on a wheelchair ramp and in a house, sealing a trailer roof, and painting near Randolph. On Sunday, we will be working at a horse rescue facility near Arcade. Signup for either or both days at this form. The days will be a good introduction into some of our jobs and will be a fun way to get involved while helping others. Lunch will be provided. Please do not wear flip flops. OUTDOOR COURTS AND FULL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT NOTICE Effective immediately, the north portion of the outdoor basketball courts will be blocked off to vehicle traffic and parking so that the area may be used for recreational purposes. Anyone found moving barriers or parking within this area will be subject to penalties associated with the SBU traffic citation(s) policy. Additionally, full enforcement of SBU parking and traffic regulations will begin on Sept. 3. Anyone who has not registered their vehicle or picked up a parking decal should do so immediately. FACULTY/STAFF PHOTO SHOOT ON FRIDAY, SEPT. 7 Faculty/Staff Photo Shoot is Friday, Sept. 7 A faculty/staff photo shoot will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the Athletics Hall of Fame in the Reilly Center. Craig Melvin, chief photographer for the Bonnies and for the Buffalo Bills, will conduct the session. This is a great opportunity for new faculty and staff members to get a professional head-and-shoulders photo taken and for veteran employees to update their photos. WOMEN'S SOCCER TO HOST SYRACUSE AND BUCKNELL The St. Bonaventure women’s soccer team will host a weekend doubleheader at McGraw-Jennings Field. Syracuse will visit the Bonnies at 5 p.m. today and Bucknell will be on campus for a 3 p.m. battle on Sunday. Both games are open to the public. DATES FOR FACULTY EVALUATIONS; TENURE, PROMOTION AND SABBATICAL APPLICATIONS The Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook amendments approved by the faculty and Board of Trustees in March are effective beginning this year. Included among the amendments were changes to the dates for submission by faculty to chairs of annual self-evaluations as well as applications for tenure, promotions and sabbatic leaves as follows: Sept.1 - Submission of applications for tenure, promotion and sabbaticals to chairs (via Moodle) Feb. 1 - Submission of self-evaluations to chairs Other dates for both of these processes are as published in the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook and University due dates calendar. During this transition year, faculty self-evaluations submitted on Feb. 1, 2013, will cover the period from Sept. 1, 2011, through Dec. 31, 2012 (i.e., there is no need to submit a separate self-evaluation for the period from Sept. 1, 2011, through Aug. 31, 2012). The Canticle Farm farmstand is open from 2 to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays. The Canticle Farm is located at 8835 S. Nine Mile Road in Allegany. Vegetables available this week include regular and Sungold tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, garlic, beet greens, sweet onions, beans, cucumbers, herbs, cousa, summer squash, zucchini, lettuce mix, lettuce heads and Swiss chard. Also available are blueberries, grains, honey, and maple syrup. Eggs will be delivered on Fridays only for the next few weeks. Fall shares are still available. CANTICLE FARM HEAVENLY HARVEST EVENT Canticle Farm will hold its fourth annual Heavenly Harvest from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, at the farm. The proceeds of this event will benefit Canticle Farm’s sustainability campaign, specifically raising funds for the new property which will allow us to continue to bring local, naturally grown healthy produce to the community. Admission includes lunch (salad, entrée, dessert, and beverage) plus all entertainment. The entertainment will be Contra dancing, a paint out with local artists, free chair massages, farm tours, and labyrinth walks. Raffle tickets will also be sold and drawn that day. WOMEN'S HOOPS LOOKING FOR STUDENT MANAGERS FOR 2012-13 The St. Bonaventure women's basketball program is looking for student managers to help head coach Jim Crowley and his staff in the upcoming 2012-13 season. Student managers must be self-motivated, hard working, have a passion for the sport of basketball and be willing to contribute on a daily basis to help the team make another NCAA tournament appearance. Student managers' responsibilities during the year include: • Collect and wash laundry • Practice and game set-up and breakdown • Filming practices and games • Assist with recruiting and games • Must be present at practice and games for bench management • Assist with recruiting and film exchange mailings The expectations for women's basketball student managers are that they must be a full-time student at SBU (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester), maintain a 2.0 grade point average, and follow all team rules and regulations at all times. The benefits of being a student manager include the opportunity to stay involved with basketball, the opportunity to receive instruction from one of the best coaching staffs in the country, the chance to be a part of an NCAA Division I program, the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and a possible recommendation toward future employment and receiving women's basketball apparel. 211: GILMAN STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP The Spring 2013 cycle for the Gilman Study Abroad scholarships is now open and available to students at www.iie.org/gilman. The Gilman offers awards up to $5,000 in grants for semester study, along with $3,000 foreign language supplements for students studying lesser taught languages (Arabic and Chinese are on the list!). Financial prerequisite: student must be receiving or be eligible to receive a Pell Grant. We celebrate the achievements of last year’s Gilman recipient, Melissa Diaz, who used scholarships funds for semester study at Universidad Veritas, San Jose, Costa Rica. Deadline: Oct. 1, 2012. Requirement: student must have applied for a semester-long study abroad program at the time of Gilman filing.
