SUBMIT YOUR EVENTS TO THE PARENT CALENDAR AND STUDENT PLANNER! It's that time of year again — we're putting together the Bonaventure custom parent calendar and student planner that will be distributed to all new students and their families. This is a great opportunity to have your event showcased! To list your events, you must provide us with information in an Excel file. The first column must be the date in mm/dd/yy format and the second column the event exactly as it should appear in the calendar. Please e-mail your Excel file with your dates to Abby Cohen at acohen@sbu.edu. Because we plan to distribute the parent calendar at Orientation in July, the event dates for that calendar need to be submitted no later than Tuesday, April 10. The event dates for the student planner need to be submitted no later than Friday, May 11. If you wish, the same set of dates can be used for both. Calendars will begin in July 2012 and run through August 2013. The following systems will not be available from 2 - 8 a.m. Friday, March 30, for system maintenance: Datatel, my.sbu.edu and Informer. Technology Services TRUFIT GOOD CITIZEN SCHOLARSHIP In support of one of our core values, community service, Citizens Bank is pleased to offer the TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship. The TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate the difference they have made in their communities though volunteering. Beginning April 1, we will be giving away a total of $50,000 to 40 very deserving students. Our winners last year showed a tremendous dedication to helping others and improving their communities. Apply by visiting www.citizensbank.com/scholarship and submit your essay or video by April 30. Scholarships will be awarded in June for the 2012-2013 academic year. WELLNESS WEDNESDAY — BONAFIT TIP OF THE DAY Balance your food choices over time. Not every food has to be "perfect." When eating a food high in fat, salt or sugar, select other foods that are low in these ingredients. If you miss out on any food group one day, make up for it the next. Your food choices over several days should fit together into a healthy pattern. Weight Watchers at SBU is a go and you can join at any time. The Weight Watchers “at work” session is open to faculty, staff, students, spouses, Aramark employees, and the rest of the university community. With the new program you will pay a monthly fee of $39.95 purchased at https://wellness.weightwatchers.com (The Company ID: 54867 and The Company Passcode: WW54867). If you have any questions about the Weight Watchers program at SBU, feel free to contact Carrie Fidurko at ext. 2294 or wellness@sbu.edu. "Like" us on Facebook for health tips and program updates. AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER? HEALTH CARE AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY "Am I My Brother’s Keeper? Health Care and Social Responsibility" is the title of the day’s program sponsored by the Health Care Access Coalition. The program includes workshops and a keynote address, and runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at Christ United Methodist Church in Olean. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. There is no charge to attend but registration is strongly suggested. Four workshops will be held in the morning, and the day’s keynote address will be given by Dr. Wendy Johnson, who has more than 15 years of experience in public and international health as a clinician, teacher, policy-maker, technical adviser and manager. Several members of the St. Bonaventure University and Olean health care communities are involved in organizing the workshops. Attendees will be able to choose from between two workshops that will be held simultaneously. Topics for the workshops are faith and health care, business and health care, media coverage of health care, and health care around the world. Johnson, a clinical associate professor with the University of Washington’s School of Public Health, has worked in developing countries where significant public health issues co-exist with political warfare. Through her national and international health advocacy work, Johnson believes the key to overcoming the burdens of disease in developed and developing countries is to strengthen and rebuild public health care systems. In addition to teaching and clinical practice, Johnson serves as the director of New Initiatives for Health Alliance International, a non-profit organization headquartered in Seattle that works to promote universal access to health care. Johnson will give the keynote address at 12:15 p.m. For reservations, go to the website, www.healthcareaccesscoalition.org, or contact Dr. Pauline Hoffmann at Hoffmann@sbu.edu or by calling 716-375-2578.
