Middle and high school students have two new options to enrich their summer vacation this year.
#CreativityCamps and an International #STEMCamp will welcome students from across the country and the world to study their favorite subjects, or even discover a new passion at St. Bonaventure University.
During the Creativity Camps June 26-30, students will choose from one of five areas of study: theater, gaming, House of Blues, STEM, or website design. The students in each camp will create something wonderful, and the week will culminate with a showcase in which the students will show their accomplishments to their families.
To register and learn additional details about the plans for each Creativity Camp, including program eligibility, visit www.sbu.edu/creativitycamps. The House of Blues and web design day camps are also open to adults with an experienced or developing interest in these areas.
The International STEM Camp July 17-23 will broaden students’ horizons not only in the STEM fields, but also through engagement with students from across the world. Student participants from China and Brazil will join U.S. students in a common investigation of the world’s most high-demand fields of study.
Students will learn how forensic scientists identify a suspect based on different evidence from a crime scene, how diseases spread, how antibiotic-resistant “superbugs” form, and accomplish a group aerospace mission at the Dresser-Rand Challenger Learning Center.

“We’ve created these camps to inspire middle and high school students to think about their future studies and stay focused on academics during the summer,” said faculty director Dr. Xiao-Ning Zhang, director of St. Bonaventure’s Biochemistry program. “We believe that students who stay academically engaged during the summer months will be more engaged when school begins again in the fall.”
Zhang is partnering with faculty and staff from across the university to make the camps engaging and inspiring for participants. Students participating in the Creativity Camps can choose a day-camper or overnight option.
The International STEM Camp does not offer a day-camper option since building community among international and domestic participants will be key to the student experience. Supervised evening activities, games and events will be provided for students participating in the overnight camps.
“We are delighted to open the doors to the university in a different way through these exciting and enriching summer camp programs,” said university President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F.
“We are hoping our alumni and friends from around the globe will use this as an opportunity to bring the distinctive Bonaventure experience to the middle and high school students in their lives.”
