Two exhibitions will entertain visitors to the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University over the holidays.
Exhibitions include “Christmas Greetings from the White House: an Exhibition of Art and History” and the annual “K-5 Juried Art Exhibition,” an art contest for local schoolchildren in grades kindergarten through fifth.
“Christmas Greetings from the White House” brings together two private collections of more than 30 original White House Christmas cards, including ones from each administration from Franklin Roosevelt to Barack Obama. Also included in the exhibition are some of the “gift prints” given by presidents to their White House staff over the years.
The schoolchildren’s art contest features 103 selected works from school districts in New York and Pennsylvania. It opens Thursday, Dec. 4, with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lighting of the University Christmas Tree in the Quick Center at 6 p.m.
In addition, all art show winners will receive two free tickets to that evening’s performance of “The Mrs. Claus Holiday Celebration,” which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Quick Center’s Rigas Theater. Additional tickets and tickets for the general public are available at the Quick Center box office by calling (716) 375-2494. The cost is $2 for children and $5 for adults.
The K-5 exhibition will be open through Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015.
The Quick Center will be closed in observance of the holiday season from Monday, Dec. 22, through Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, reopening Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.
Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The galleries of the Quick Center are free and open to the public year round. For general information or group tours call (716) 375-2494, visit www.sbu.edu/quickcenter or email Quick@sbu.edu.
