A new exhibition at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts emphasizes the diversity of art quilting today.
The exhibition from the Studio Art Quilt Association is titled “People and Portraits” and features 40 art quilts made by 20 contemporary quilt artists. The exhibition is on display in the Quick Center’s second-floor Paul W. Beltz Gallery.
This engaging series of quilts showcases the diversity of art quilting today, revealing how artists inspired by the same theme create incredibly varied and immensely compelling pieces.
The artists in this exhibition come from across the globe, including the U.S., Japan, Australia, Sweden and Italy. They use a wide range of techniques to create their portraits: dyeing, fabric painting, stenciling, collage, screen-printing, photo transfer, trapunto, embroidery and appliqué. The result is an exhibition of quilts not like grandmother made, but quilting in the 21st century.
The exhibition is open through Dec. 18.
