2014-15 Friends of Good Music season

The New York City-based Aquila Theatre will perform the classic “Wuthering Heights” at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25. It is the fifth presentation of the 2014-15 Friends of Good Music season.

The novel, one of the most famous works of world literature, was first published in 1847 under a pseudonym and is Emily Bronte’s only work. “Wuthering Heights” recounts the tale of ill-fated lovers on the lonely moors of northern England. Heathcliff and Catherine meet as children when Catherine’s father brings the abandoned boy home to live with them. The two grow up together, living freely on the moors while Catherine’s brother torments Heathcliff. When Catherine’s parents die, her brother turns Heathcliff out, forcing him to live among the servants. Catherine marries and the crushed Heathcliff disappears. Years later, a wealthy Heathcliff returns, but is it too late for them?

“Wuthering Heights” is a deep and wide story of passion, revenge, family, class and the supernatural. Over a century and a half later, Bronte’s magnum opus remains incredibly moving. Bringing its signature style and dynamic approach, Aquila re-imagines one of the most famous love stories ever told. Aquila Theatre is renowned for its ability to adapt works of classical literature into enthralling and mesmerizing live performances. Impeccable design and a unique physical style combine with a marvelous cast to make “Wuthering Heights” an exquisite and captivating theatrical experience.

DC Metro Theater Arts, in a review of the performance at George Mason University, proclaimed: “Congratulations to Aquila Theatre for the highly entertaining, innovative, and energizing spectacle, and for reminding us of a powerful and universal message worth remembering: life can be turned into emotional hell when status and wealth are favored over true love.”

Tickets are $20 at full price, $16 for senior citizens and St. Bonaventure employees, and $5 for students. For tickets and information, call The Quick Center at (716) 375-2494.

For each Friends of Good Music performance, The Quick Center will open its galleries one hour before the performance and keep them open throughout the intermission. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Museum admission is free and open to the public year round. For more information, visit www.sbu.edu/quickcenter.
