Soprano Colleen Daly to perform tribute to Jeanette MacDonald at St. Bonaventure University's Quick Center

Mar 19, 2014 |

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. Soprano Colleen Daly will present her concert program “Remembering Jeanette MacDonald” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, at St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. It is the seventh concert of the 2013-14 Friends of Good Music season.

Together with pianist Elizabeth Hastings, Daly will present a tribute to America’s beloved soprano Jeannette MacDonald, featuring songs and arias from her many appearances in opera, operetta, and film.

Daly is the winner of the St. Bonaventure Performance Prize of the 2013 Liederkranz Competition. Since 1960, the Liederkranz Competition has brought the most important young singers of the times to international audiences. Many of the prize winners have gone on to very successful careers at the Metropolitan Opera and other leading opera companies in the United States and Europe.

Daly is rapidly emerging as a “dramatically powerful” singer in today’s operatic arena, according to the Washington Post. Her most recent performances include Musetta in “La Bohème” with Lyric Opera Baltimore and Des Moines Metro Opera. She has already performed at the New York City Opera, the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, and internationally in Germany and Italy.

In addition to the Liederkranz Foundation honor, Daly has received awards from the Gerda Lissner Foundation, The Washington International Competition and Annapolis Opera.

Pianist Hastings has conducted for the Toledo Opera, the Washington Opera, the Sarasota Opera
and the New York City Opera National Touring Company. She conducted “Amahl and the Night Visitors” for the Kennedy Center, directed by Gian Carlo Menotti. She is aligned with musical theatre as well as opera, and conducted more than 60 productions in her 25 seasons at the Highfield Theater on Cape Cod.

Hastings served as music director of the Liederkranz Foundation in New York City for eight years,
producing opera and operetta, and overseeing the prestigious Liederkranz Competition. A highly regarded vocal coach and accompanist, she maintains a busy studio in her native New York.

For tickets and additional information, call The Quick Center box office at (716) 375-2494.

For this and all other performances, the museum galleries will open one hour before the start of the performance and remain open throughout the intermission. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Museum admission is free and open to the public year round.
