Dr. Carol Fischer has been named interim dean of St. Bonaventure University’s School of Business by Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., university president.
Fischer had been serving as executive in charge of the School of Business since Jan. 1. Dr. Pierre Balthazard stepped down in December to become dean of the School of Business at California State University at Sacramento.
A 1980 graduate of St. Bonaventure, Fischer has been a faculty member in St. Bonaventure’s Department of Accounting since 1985, becoming a full professor in 2001 and serving as chair of the department from 1999 to 2004.
Fischer previously served as interim dean from December 2011 through May 2012. She was also associate dean in fall 2011, and again from fall 2012 through December 2014.
“We have outstanding faculty and staff in the School of Business who are committed to our students’ success both inside and outside of the classroom,” Fischer said. “I am honored by the support of my colleagues to take on the challenge of leading the school during this period.”
The School of Business, which just opened the William E. and Ann L. Swan Business Center in 2013, will continue to evolve during the search for a new dean, Fischer said.
“We are continually engaged in integrating technology in our curriculum and offering opportunities for students to engage in experiential learning,” she said. “This semester, we are revising the MBA program and reviewing our undergraduate programs to ensure they continue to be relevant in preparing students to develop into ‘responsible leaders for the greater good and bottom line.’”
A search committee to find a permanent replacement is in the process of being formed, Fischer said. She will serve as interim dean until a replacement is found.
