The Opening Mass of the Holy Spirit will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, in the newly renovated Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.
In case of inclement weather, Mass will be held in the University Chapel in Doyle Hall.
“We celebrate the beginning of a new academic year by asking for God’s blessing, praying for our students, staff, faculty and loved ones, and giving thanks for all that we have received from God’s goodness,” said Fr. Francis Di Spigno, O.F.M., executive director of University Ministries.
Fr. Ross Chamberland, O.F.M., director of The Lateran Center for Catholic Identity at St. Bonaventure, will give the homily.
Immediately following the Mass, a meal for the university community will be served at Hickey Dining Hall.
The Grotto, located just to the southwest of the Swan Business Center, was rededicated on Aug. 16. The classes of 1964, 1965 and 2015 gave gifts to create a more accessible and attractive space.
