St. Bonaventure University will host a “Walk for Warmth” on the Allegheny River Valley Trail on Sunday, Nov. 24, to benefit the Warming House, the oldest student-run soup kitchen in the country.
Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the 5K run/walk starting at noon at the SBU tennis courts near the west entrance of the university. Participants are asked to pay $5 at registration, or $10 for registration that includes a t-shirt.
Raffle prizes will be provided by Sports Locker, Tops, Applebees, Linger Longer Café, Mangia’s, Ellicottville Brewing Company, Tasty Twirl and Carmike Cinemas. Live music will be played, and refreshments will be offered on the Hickey Dining Hall lawn following the walk/run.
A donation box for the Warming House will also be provided. Items needed include, paper towels, dish soap, sponges, table sugar, coffee, hand soap, hand towels and pot holders, aluminum foil and plastic wrap, non-dairy creamer, and gift cards with small amounts to grocery stores.
The walk/run is open to the public. Students can register on my.sbu or register the day of the event. Cash and checks payable to St. Bonaventure University will be accepted.
The Warming House serves more than 12,000 meals annually to hungry, homeless and disadvantaged. It is open six days a week and involves more than 400 student and community volunteers.
The walk/run is sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts, Olean Medical Group and Cutco.
