Recyclemania

Feb. 2 - March 28

Our Recyclemania goal this year is education. By educating our campus, we hope to improve recyling efforts from last year to have 27 percent of all waste be recycled.

Our "Be the Tradition" slogan means that we are to continue our efforts to not only be conscious of recycling during Recyclemania but also become a more sustainable campus.

This year's Trashion Fashion Show  starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, in the Rigas Theatre of the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. Go to the Trashion Fashion Show page to learn how to make your own eco-friendly designs!

Calendar of Events for Recyclemania 2015

  • Polar Bear Purge - all day Thursday, March 5, in the Plassmann Quad

Throughout the day students will have the opportunity to build a gigantic polar bear in the snow. The purpose of this activity is to create awareness that the Arctic Ice Cap, home of the polar bear, is being destroyed in part due to our failure to recycle.

  • Think Green: Hostage Negotiations - any time during last week of February and first week of March on campus

Are you recycling the way you should or are you being thoughtless? We'll find out when Tread Lightly takes your trash bins hostage for an in-depth interrogation. Remember... we're always watching!

  • Shred-A-Thon - any time the week of March 18 on campus

Need materials in your office shredded? Contact Azure Collins-Anderson at collina13@bonaventure.edu to arrange for a member of Tread Lightly to shred your documents.

  • Trashion Fashion Show - 7 p.m Tuesday, April 21, in the QCA's Rigas Theatre

The Trashion Fashion Show is a design competition combining high fashion with environmental awareness in an effort to construct works that are both eco-friendly and eco-couture. It is a fun and creative way to live a more sustainable life beyond simply sorting recyclables into buckets or bins.

Recyclemania starts Feb. 2 with help from the Bona Wolf

Jan 29, 2014 |

By Tate M. Slaven, ’14

Recyclemania is back for another year. The campus will kick off its Feed the Wolf! campaign on Sunday, Feb. 2.

This year, the Bona Wolf will be lending his support for Recyclemania — just look for the Bonnies wolf logo designating recycling containers and informational posters across campus.

The goal of this year’s campaign is to recycle 25 percent of the waste generated by the St. Bonaventure campus. The university is among more than 400 colleges and universities participating in the Recyclemania Tournament, and weekly updates of each institution will be posted online via www.recyclemaniacs.org

Spearheading this year’s efforts is the Franciscan Center for Social Concern, the Recyclemania Committee, Tread Lightly and the Student Government Association.

During the week of Feb. 3, St. Bonaventure community members will be invited to sign leaf-shaped pledge cards showing their commitment to recycling. These pledge cards will then be placed on a tree located in Hickey Dining Hall.
