Giving together in support of today’s students is the goal of St. Bonaventure University’s third annual #BonaGivingDay on February 8. Alumni, family and friends are asked to “Rise to the Challenge” with a gift to The Bonaventure Fund during the one-day event.
“Bonnies give back. It’s what we do best,” said Karen Heitzinger, director of Annual Giving. “The collective power of our contributions during #BonaGivingDay help to ensure that St. Bonaventure remains an extraordinary place to learn.”
Beginning at 12:01 a.m., Feb. 8, the 24-hour fundraising event will offer participants the chance to join various giving challenges, create their own fun challenge or simply support a participant or team at www.sbu.edu/BonaGivingDay. Giving challenges will be highlighted throughout the day and on social media. Updates and student stories will also be featured.
“Everyone can play a role by donating, sharing social media posts and videos, and encouraging friends and family to ‘Rise to the Challenge,’” Heitzinger said.
Gifts will be counted for all 24 hours of the event. While the focus will be online donations, any checks dated Feb. 8 and phone donations made that day will also be counted. All gifts will benefit The Bonaventure Fund, which enhances the lives of students by providing scholarship aid and academic support, Heitzinger said.
The annual 24-hour fundraising event is held in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend and features several events, including: The Selfie Scavenger Hunt for students, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 8; Bona Pride Day on Feb. 9, where alumni worldwide demonstrate their Bonaventure pride by wearing Bona gear and posting photos to social media; and the Thank a Bonnie event on Feb. 9, with students taking to social media to share their thanks.
“Large or small, every gift on #BonaGivingDay supports the people, programs and places across campus that matter in the lives of our students,” said Heitzinger. “It’s a great way for all of us to show our Bona pride and make a difference for today’s Bonnies.”
