St. Bonaventure University is offering summer camp programs for kids and teens that combine STEM activities with summer fun. The first of the camps, Zometool & STEM Camp, will take place at the university June 26 through June 29.
Zometool is a powerful construction system that allows the integration of art, math, science, engineering, and play. Mathematicians, artists, and architects are finding out what kids already know: creating, discovering, and deepening your understanding of the universe with Zometool is FUN! The morning activities will have kids participating in a hands-on "big build" project with Professor Chris Hill.
Morning activities in the Zometool Camp include :
• Building geodesic domes, “spinners,” and 2- and 3-dimensional challenges
• Exploring mathematical and artistic patterns
• Working together to a build a single, complex work of “mathematical art” containing thousands of parts.
In the afternoon, Joan Seaman, an SBU elementary education, special education and early childhood education major, will be leading exciting STEM experiments, such as a Lego Pulley Engineering Challenge, building a Homemade Wigglebot, learning about motion and gravity through Pendulum Painting, and more!
Organizers suggest this camp for children for ages 9-13. Partial scholarships are available. Registration and scholarship information is available at www.sbu.edu/summercamps2017 or by calling 716-375-2045.
